Chip 2.2 - Monzo, Starling, Revolut and more 🚀
The latest update (Chip 2.2) was a big one.
We now have the tech in place to connect to Chip using just your bank card. This allows you to get set up with Chip quickly and easily, no matter who you bank with.
But to deliver the Chip 2.2 update, we had to break part of Chip before rebuilding it. This means...
You need to update to the latest version of Chip to keep your automatic and manual saves working.
New banks 🏛️✨
Our latest update allows Chip to connect with challenger banks. So, if you bank with Monzo, Starling Revolut or N26, you can now use Chip!
We also have the behind the scenes stuff set up to be able to connect to any UK bank, and with the next update we’ll add the option for “other banks”.
Chip is now for everyone, no matter who you bank with, and we think that’s pretty cool.
Easy to sign up - snap and go! 📷
If you’re new to Chip, we’ve made it much much easier to start making saves.
Now, you can just take a picture of your card, enter in a few details (name, address, date of birth) for a quick ID check (we need to check you’re not laundering money!) and you can start making saves.
Your auto saves work slightly differently if you just connect using your card (more on this below 👇).
And to enjoy the magic of Chip and benefit from personalised auto-saves, you’ll still need to fully connect your bank to Chip using your online banking credentials.
We don’t offer these personalised saves for the new banks (Monzo, Starling, Revolut and N26) just yet, but we’re working on it!
How auto saves work with new banks 💸
As you connect using just your bank card, we don’t have access to your transaction data via Open Banking.
Instead, we use data from all Chip savers (we’ve analysed well over 180 million transactions) to arrive at an amount that matches the typical Chip auto save.
We hope you won’t really notice the difference. And you’ll still be able to tweak your savings level in your account settings, to get it to match your needs.
Of course the automatic saves are not personalised using your data, but this is something we’re working towards with the new banks.
Also importantly, whilst we’re pretty confident Chip won’t take you into your overdraft, we can’t guarantee it with these banks (but again, we’re working on it!). You’ll always have the chance to cancel any saves before the money leaves your bank account.
If you’d like to know more, there’s a thread in our shiny new forum that goes into more detail, for all you FinTech geeks out there.
You need to update to keep Chip working! 📲
We had to effectively ‘break’ part of Chip to deliver this update. So if you’ve noticed your saves aren’t working, or if there’s something else that seems a bit wrong, make sure you’re on the latest version of Chip (2.2).
